Does anyone have or know about rheumatoid nodules?

I have in the past week developed one on the PIP joint of my left index finger. They're an extra distortion
on the joint I would prefer not to have. Do they disappear again?

Hello Gogs

Sadly I have lumps & bumps on my hands from ra.
I'm left handed and it looks so much more abnormal than my right hand.
I've spoken to rheumy nurse buts it's not reversible.

Makes me feel sad when I look at my left hand.

Hope you are well.

Jane

sorry to hear you've developed a nodule, i have seen patients with them at my Rheumy Department i am not sure they go once you have them.

as Jane says above ...

i did have a swollen middle joint finger that was there for a couple of years at least, i thought it was Osteo as i had it before being diagnosed with RA, and i couldn't believe that joint went back to normal size within a month of starting Humira .. i know it's a different topic but just say how amazed i was,

Thanks Suzanne and Jane for responding re RA nodules.

I did look it up a bit and guess it's for life - they do make your hands look uglySad

Slightly off topic, but I am reminded of when my wife had a ganglion on her wrist. The GP's highly scientific advice? "Go home, put your wrist on the table an whack it with a hefty book" :)

Hexham - Northumberland - Loads of spectacular walks - all I need now are the joints to go with them! :)

I have lots of little nodules that come & go esp with treatment. Many of them I don't really notice, but those on tendons can cause triggering when inflamed. I had a particularly annoying pea-sized one at the base of my right index finger, that shrank dramatically & stopped being a problem after my fisrt round of Rituximab - so hopefully yours might not be permanantly the saem size even if they don't go away completely. (My Consultant did offer to inject it, presumably with steroid, to see if that would help if it didn't settle down)

The complicating factor is that methotrexate itself can cause nodules to form - so how do we know which nodules are due to the treatment & which get better with treatment?! My Rheumy Nurses say they can't tell...

I have the most horrid bunch of Nodules on my right hand fingers and one on my left

hand!

My right elbow has an even bigger one and a smaller one on my left elbow too, unfortunately!

My hand surgeon, who performed Carpel Tunnel surgery for me said that he would

not operate to remove the finger nodules as they are on finger joints but that the elbow ones

are possible to remove. (Although any nodule can grow back.)

I had my Rheumatology appointment today and have requested a referral to my surgeon

because I feel deformed because of the elbow nodules getting so large and constantly cover

them up except during heatwaves! Also I am always knocking them especially the bigger they get!

I don't feel self conscious in front of my grown up kids or my partner but when around other people

I do - A nice shop assistant asked me in the Summer "is that your elbow?" and I said "no it's a Rheumatoid nodule

because I have R.A." She was the first person to ever ask me and she asked in a very caring way, not nastily.

Anyway you will probably never have nodules like mine.

Best wishes,

FionaRollEyes

Hi

I also have a couple of nodules on my index finger and my thumb. I am having surgery in May to remove a bone from my hand as the pain in my basal thumb joint is dreadful. The surgeon is also going to remove the nodule from my thumb joint at the same time.

I have a small one on my elbow and assume that later in the year when my elbow joint is replaced, it might be removed at the same time.
